An Appeal to heal our Home
Dear Friends from our beloved homeland, India,
We write this to you when we are all aware of how the earth that gave us our first homes is bleeding quietly. Never before have her people been in such widespread distress; never before has the want of the one thing that we all took for granted: air, been more significant; never before has disparity been starker. Every day, for the last two months, we have woken up to the news of horror we hear from our own extended families back home, of people we have never seen or know. And our hearts have bled as they do for one of our own.
Last month, as various states in India were scrambling for beds, oxygen, life support, and medical supplies, some of us got together over a phone call on how we could help. With teams on the ground, we began assisting people using video technology. Eventually, this led to the setting up of Free Consultation for COVID Symptoms https://yanaindia.org/ You Are Not Alone, a portal that has since offered solace to more than 600 patients and caregivers across the country.
I am sure that you have heard about the unbelievable conditions in the hospitals in India: no bed space, people sharing beds, no oxygen, and people lined up with loved ones needing help. Patients had to arrange for oxygen on their own as the hospitals had run out of oxygen.
Now, after the peaks in various cities, the hotspots have moved to rural areas. These are places with no access to quality infrastructure, adequate medical teams, or other support. We are looking at constructing enough oxygen generation plants in various rural areas in the coming months as India prepares for the long onslaught with multiple peaks across different geographies.
India has recorded more than 12,000 cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus). Liposomal Amphotericin B is used to treat Mucormycosis. People affected by the black fungus in India are dying due to lack of Liposomal Amphotericin B.
Our appeal to you, our fellow Tamil Sangam members, is to contribute to the American Tamil Medical Association (ATMA), a registered 501 (C)(3) IRS tax-exempt charitable organization that will personally oversee this activity. We will use one hundred percent of the collected funds to build oxygen-generating plants in rural areas and procure medications to treat Mucormycosis. This initiative from all of us today will go a long way in preventing an untold number of premature deaths due to COVID in the coming months.
We write to you because we are seeing first-hand the desperate search for hope amongst our brethren. We write to you to help us build for the long term. We write to you to help us make a difference to the very thing that sustains us on earth: oxygen.
Thank you very much !!!
