For a long time I've known there is suffering in the world. There are acts of violence, and there are those in need. How did I justify turning a blind eye? Simple. I am only one person, what could I do? Why should I contribute if I have problems of my own? There are others who can give, who have the resources to do so, its not my responsibility. I started focusing more on myself and my career. I was becoming successful and rising up the corporate ladder, I thought I was on the right career path. I was in a position I'd worked hard to get to, in charge of my own employees and running a business. I was making a respectable income, I was able to buy a home and benefit from certain luxuries. However, I started to feel uneasy, I felt unfulfilled. Then, it hit me, I may not be the wealthiest person in the world, but I can still contribute. I quit my job, changed my career path, registered into school again. Most importantly I decided to change the person I had been. I may only be one person but that's how real change starts, with yourself. I looked at myself and realized I was being selfish. I looked at my son and saw an opportunity to break the pattern of selfishness, show him the importance of caring. I probably won't make much of a difference in this world but my son might if I inspire him enough. We alone may not contribute much, but we might spark others to give as well. Perhaps, that first act of kindness will lead to another and another, eventually it will spark enough people where we can affect the world in a good way. So what I'm asking from some of you is a donation between $1-10. Maybe you can skip the coffee and bagel today? Maybe you skip the movies one night? Any way you think you can find extra cash to donate, and help a child, a woman, a family, a country. Thank you for your time, for reading this, and I hope you find a way to contribute.
The organization I've chosen to support is called Care, their website is https://www.care.org. They fight for women's empowerment, fight against poverty, social injustice, climate change and World Hunger, along with a number of different projects. Care has a large number of countries where they provide care, support and advocate on behalf of those who can't. I believe Care is a worthy organization that deserves our support.
