This July, I'll be scaling the HIGHEST peak in the Carribbean to raise funds to provide educational opportunities for students of Batey Libertad, Dominican Republic. I suck at hiking, and an amazing friend once pretty much carried me up a Guatemalan volcano because my knees gave out. They haven't gotten any less painful, but I'm gonna take on this three-day "monster" hike anyway, because it's for the most amazing of causes.
I've been working for Yspaniola for going on two years now (so WHY haven't you come to visit me yet??). The students of the batey remind me of myself growing up... mischevious, cheeky and totally ADORABLE (of course!). What these students do not have are the fantastic educational opportunities that I had. Most families in the community are incredibly poor and often struggle day-to-day to feed and clothe their kids. Severe discrimination against Haitians based on skin-color makes it tough for many people from the community to find work outside of low-paid, back-breaking agricultural and manual labor.
I am hoping to raise a very ambitious $1,000 to fund education for the students of Batey Libertad, and I truly appreciate any cash you can part with. Thank you so much for visiting my page to donate. It really means so much to me.
LOVE YOU! Amy xxxxxx
P.S. now come visit me and these amazing kids
