So...it started nearly 20 years ago when I joined the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation as a social work intern having no real idea of what liver disease was or how ugly it could be. I have met hundreds of families, old and young, living with liver disease - some surviving, some thriving, and some who were never able to overcome their liver disease or make it to transplant. The strength and perseverence these families have shown has inspired me throughout the years...and their grace during times of loss has humbled me.
I am running with my dear friend and former colleague, Dr. Silvia Hafliger, in memory of those we have lost in hope of preventing more people from suffering with liver disease. We hope by participating in the NYC Half Marathon and supporting ALF we can contribute to making life just a little bit easier for those living with this disease.
I ask you to support the mission of the American Liver Foundation to facilitate, advocate and promote education, support and research for the prevention, treatment, and cure of liver disease.
