As I think most know, I used to run a lot. Then I had kids and I kind of got away from it. The last race that I did was Grandma's Marathon in...2015? Well, I ended up getting pulled from the race because I wasn't feeling well, and later found out that I was actually pregnant and ended up miscarrying. I have always had a tug to redo Grandma's to "redeem" myself of sorts.
I have been seeing a few people who have announced that they were running as a "charity runner," and it peeked my interest so I decided to see what carities were an option. As soon as I saw that the American Foundation for Suicide (AFSP) was an option, I knew I had just gained enough info to not be able to turn back.
June 20th I will be running Grandma's full marathon in order to raise funds for suicide prevention. As part of a 15 year career working in mental health, someone who has fought my own demons, someone who has dear friends who have survived suicide attemps, someone who has friends who have lost loved ones to suicide, and someone who is HEARTBROKEN by all the recent law enforcement suicides, I am beyond honored to join the AFSP team! In addition to raising $500, I will be continuing to raise discussion surrounding someone we need to talk more about, suicide!
I am looking forward to raising money to prevent further loss of valuable life, and ask if you would consider joining me in that mission by making a small donation. <3
