Hi my name is Bryce Pinkham, I am an actor and singer and a little over one year ago I lost my agent and friend of ten years Mark Schlegel who died by suicide. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or AFSP for short- that makes me a suicide loss survivor. It has taken me a year to arrive at a healthy enough place to talk about Mark’s passing, but I have learned that talking about suicide and it’s relationship to mental health is the only way we can prevent suicide. As part of my suicide loss survivor healing process I have decided to turn my pain into action- this year, with the help of the AFSP I will be running the NEW YORK CITY MARATHON in honor of Mark, his family, his friends and his co-workers. With your help, every step I take on November 4th will bring us all closer to preventing the next suicide. Together, we will raise awareness about various early detection and treatments for mental health issues that can lead to suicide. Please make a donation to help AFSP lead the way in Education, Research and Suicide Prevention in the coming years. If we help bring this discussion out of the shadows, together with AFSP we can help prevent suicide and improve all of our mental health!
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP: I am asking everyone out there to join me in pledging themselves to be a part of a real conversation about suicide. If suicide has affected your life, or if you simply believe, like I do, that the time is now to contribute our voices to the discussion on mental health that is gaining momentum in our country and around the world, I ask that you simply post a quick video or photo of your own to let others know that they are not alone and that you are declaring yourself a safe place to have a real conversation about suicide and mental health. Use the hashtag #realconvo and be sure to tag me @thebrycecapades as well as @AFSPNYC.
