America SCORES engages urban youth in high-poverty neighborhoods with innovative after-school and summer programming that builds teams through a unique combination of soccer, poetry, and service learning.
Our holistic team-based approach works: 92% of kids in SCORES say that they feel better about themselves. SCORES participants find success in a variety of ways, from all-star poetry performers like Jesus C. and Jaiden R. from Los Angeles who shared their original poem on stage at the Laureus Foundation Sports For Good Summit 2018, to successful soccer players like Bridgette M. from San Francisco who plays for the under-16 United States Women’s National Team. America SCORES poet-athletes write 45,000 original works of poetry and play almost 3,000 competitive soccer matches every year.
America SCORES was recognized in 2018 for best practices in youth literacy promotion; we give over 13,000 kids the skills they need to succeed in life. A’dora W. from Washington, D.C. published her own children’s book after participating in SCORES. And, Miguel A. returned to America SCORES Los Angeles, after spending time as a poet-athlete and then graduating from California State University, to take over as an elementary school Site Coordinator.
