Amazonia is dystopian e-commerce store for women, by women, to illustrate everything that’s at stake in the 2020 election. 100% of your donation will go to Supermajority to help unlock more power for women.
Amazonia warns us of a repressive future where a strict, brutal, paternalistic government polices female sexuality and autonomy. Inspired by doomsday Preppers, we created Amazonia —a fictional online shopping site where instead of stockpiling ammo and trail mix, women can prepare for the ‘what if” scenario of another four years of the Trump Administration by stocking up on all of the things we have fought so hard for over the decades.
Our goal is to invite site visitors to question the future that is unfolding, stamp down the future we fear, and of course, trigger people to vote and support the organizations that are active in the fight.
Amazonia was created by Grey Area Collective, a woman-owned design and research studio, as an homage to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This is the first in a series of interventions using speculative design as a platform to probe the ethical, cultural, social, and political implications of the assault on women's rights.
