In order to continue to provide six $5,000 scholarships annually, the Agris Journalism Scholarship Fund needs to be enhanced to help ensure its continued success into the future.
We are grateful to the Lingos Family Foundation for its kickoff donation of $10,000 (not included in our crowdrise totals). Please help us build on this generous donation and ensure this program's continued success.
While contributions of any amount are welcome, we are looking for sponsors: Diamond--$10,000, Ruby--$5,000, and Emerald--$2500. We are also looking for contributors: Gold--$1,000, Silver--$500, and Bronze--$250. Contributions may be made through Crowdrise or by obtaining information the the Alpha Omega council website: www.alphaomegacouncil.org, or contact Angelo Stamoulis at astamoulis@comcast.net for details.
The Peter Agris Memorial Journalism Scholarships, established in 1993, honor the memory of Alpha Omega Council’s founder and the publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle, for 50 years the largest national weekly newspaper for Greek-Americans. Over the last quarter century, grants totaling $585,000 in critical financing have been awarded to 117 aspiring journalism and communications professionals of Greek-American heritage.
Former recipients occupy every branch of the journalism world, including television, radio, sports, entertainment, history and academia. These proud Greek-Americans serve as anchors in news markets across the U.S.; correspondents covering war and politics at home and abroad for The New York Times, Frontline, NPR, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal and CNN; as press officers at the State Department and on Capitol Hill; and more. The program also provides a network that has helped recipients find opportunities in the communications arena through mentorship from their predecessors already working in the field.
Please help build this scholarship fund for the future by contributing now.
