My name is Kelsi Manning and I am 17 years old. On January 6th, 2016, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I had an extremely rigorous 2 1/2 year chemotherapy treatment plan and I finished on April 20th, 2018. Later in 2018, I had both of my hips replaced as a result of a side effect from treatment called Avascular Necrosis, which cuts off the blood flow to your bones causing bone death, joint collapse, and extreme pain. I started physical therapy and learned to walk again after being wheelchair-bound for almost 2 years. Everything was looking up at the beginning of 2019. On March 28th, we went to a routine visit at our hospital for labs. Later that day, we found out that I had relapsed; my cancer had come back. After desperately searching for treatment options that wouldn’t be extremely harmful to my body, we decided to try to find a hospital that would accept me for a CAR-T Cell trial program. CAR-T cell therapy uses your own genetically modified cells to fight your cancer, which is a lot less harmful than traditional chemotherapy. I was accepted into the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and we’ve spent almost 8 weeks here getting treatment. This will hopefully keep cancer away for good. My family and I will be walking the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation 5k Walk-Off for Cancer for the 4th time, and we ask that you help us support this fantastic foundation. I, like my dad, and his grandparents, have been a lifelong Cubs fan and I am so grateful for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation for raising money to help families with cancer that are in need. This foundation also gives families with cancer a platform to educate other people about what cancer really looks like and how you can help. Every cent of your donations are going to a great foundation that will support cancer research, affiliated hospital programs and pediatric cancer families! Thank you so much!
Even better, if you donate one of the amounts below you will receive an incentive item!
