Hello! I've never made my own team nor aimed quite so high for CAAAV's Karaoke Battle before but this year I'm dreaming big!
In high school, I joined CAAAV to be a part of community, and met friends, mentors, and countless community members from every part of the city. At CAAAV, I learned how to interpret Chinese American history, how to door knock, and to practice a pitch in Mandarin Chinese. Now, I'm thrilled to be coming back as a Public Housing Organizer in Queens, to learn from past organizers and tenant leaders, and support the ongoing fight to keep housing and cost of living affordable in the movement to unpack and fight institutional racism and economic injustices.
At CAAAV, all those years ago, I found that we could dream big together. We can fight for housing justice in a city that is ruled by real estate lobbyists and rising inequality. We can fight against inconceivably big monopolizing corporations that break apart communities and send rents skyrocketing. CAAAV fights to make New York City a better and more affordable place to live for low-income Asian immigrant communities, and all New Yorkers. Central to every campaign and in so many ways, CAAAV facilitates the difficult but critical conversations about systemic racism, anti-blackness, and white supremacy that our Asian American communities need for liberation.
As part of my community, please help me raise money to support this wonderful, strong, scrappy organization that helps tenants and organizers find our wildest dreams and has a plan to get there.
