As many of you know, I like to move heavy weights for fun. This year, I will be participating in a meet called Pull for Pride, which is a deadlift-only meet run across the U.S. (and now Canada!) every year started by the Women's Strength Coalition. (For those of you that don't know, deadlift is where you pick the weight up off the ground and stand up holding the weight, as pictured above! Multiple chins included.)
Not only is the Pull for Pride meet a celebration of strength in the LGBTQ+ community, it is also a fundraiser. Each meet fundraises for a local LGBTQ+ cause, and since I will be lifting in Pull for Pride Hamilton, the cause I will be fundraising for is The Hamilton Trans Health Coalition.
The Hamilton Trans Health Coalition is a group composed of family physicians, other health care providers and trans Hamiltonians working together to increase the capacity of Hamilton’s primary health care system to deliver high-quality healthcare to Trans Hamiltonians.
Deadlifting 300 pounds has been a goal of mine for a few years now, so I am hoping to pull 300lbs for $300 in donations! I have only just started my prep for this meet, and I will share progress as go!
[Edit]: Wow, how lucky am I to know so many generous people?! Within a few hours of launching I have almost reached my goal of $300, so I am going to aim a bit higher! I will add to my goal of 300 pounds the weight of a possible second attempt, 286 pounds. That's a total of $586 for the Hamilton Trans Health Coalition!
