The Ali Forney Center is the largest and most comprehensive program in the nation dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless LGBTQ youths. However this year alone, we have seen a 20% increase in the young people accessing our services- what we believe to be directly associated with the increased homophobic and transphobic rhetoric in our current political climate. It is more important than ever that we continue to work to protect our youth by providing the supportive services necessary to help them thrive and preare for independent living.
This year, the Ali Forney Center is proud to participate in the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon. Our team of five runners is committed to training and raising money with the promise that 100% of every dollar will be used for AFC's continued fight against the homelessness epidemic.
Our combined runner goal is to raise $25,000 which will provide over 11,000 meals to the young people we service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Please help support these runners and their mission to support and protect our LGBTQ youth! You can make a donation to a particular runn or a general donation in support of the entire AFC team.
Look at what your support can do:
-For $1,000 you’ll help keep 1 homeless youth off of the streets for one month.
-$500 helps to cover 1 full week of outreach, which places a team of staff on the streets handing out blankets and food, and helping to connect youth to AFC’s drop in center.
-$250 helps to cover 1 full week of meals for 10 homeless youths offering three nutritious meals a day including breakfast, lunch and dinner.
-$100 helps to provide toiletries (tooth paste, soap, deodorant, shampoo) and socks, underwear and undershirts for 20 homeless young people.
-$50 helps to cover the cost of outreach supplies for one week including snack bars, personal hygiene supplies, and safe-sex supplies.
Our five official charity runner slots have already been filled, but you have any questions about the marathon fundraising process, please contact Janine Hope at email@example.com.
