It's very hard out there today.
While we have all been told to stay in our homes, what about those who don't have a home?
What do they do? Where do they get food?
Since 1990 the Aisling Irish Community Center and their "Irish Volunteers for the Homeless" volunteers have come into the center every week to prepare sandwiches, drinks and a dessert for hundreds of homeless people. Then every Monday evening another crew comes into the center to pick up the food and drinks, and bring them to various locations throughout the city, including Fifth Avenue where hundreds of homeless people seek shelter by night on the steps of churches along the avenue.
They know how important the program is for those in need and have invested not only their time but also their hearts in giving back.
What do they give out EVERY WEEK to approx. 300 people?
Sandwiches. (about 800 of them)
At the wonderful An Beal Bocht Cafe in Riverdale, The Bronx, there is a program called, "For The Other Guy (and Gal)". With the leadership of Mary Courtney, Bronagh Harmon, Tony Caffrey, Maureen O'Brien Lehman and Fredda Tourin, every Friday, during Mary Courtney's weekly performance, they raise money for the Aisling Irish Center Volunteers for the Homeless.
Since November, 2013, when the For The Other Guy (and Gal) was formed, this fund-raising program has raised over $25,000, funding over 63,000 of the sandwiches which been placed in the hands of a hungry, homeless Americans. And all for $5 or less per donation.
This is what grassroots looks like.
Now that no one can gather in restaurants, cafes and pubs, the money-raising program is at a standstill. Can you help? Any amount is welcome.
Join me in making a difference. I'm raising money to benefit Aisling Irish Community Center, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
Every cent raised here goes straight to the Aisling Irish Center.
They receive the money, make sandwiches, and feed people.
If you can donate, please do. If you can't, we understand. We know it is HARD out there right now).
You, CAN share this on your FB page and other social media to help widen this appeal to the people who are in a position to help.
