It's that time of year again when one of my favorite organizations ramps up its fundraising for all the incredible work they do. As you all know I had the privilege of being a human rights accompanier with NISGUA (Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala) back in 2013 and have since continued to stay involved the network through US-based grassroots fundraising, campaigns and their US based council. NISGUA is an organization dear to me not only because of the very critical physical presence and solidarity they provide to Guatemalan organizations fighting for accountability and environmental rights but also the ways they support accompaniers throughout their time in Guatemala and upon their return in building their political education and racial and class analysis.
There are a multitude of reasons why I continue to support NISGUA which I can and will talk at length about with anyone who is interested! But right now especially, with the parallels we are seeing between economic and environmental crisis' happening in Central American countries, the immigration 'crisis' along the U.S. Mexico border and political fracturings in our country, it feels ever more important to have an internationalist, solidarity oriented connection to movements here and in countries that are being affected by our government's military and economic interests.
From now until May 31st, we can double our impact and work towards our goal of raising $70,000 to sustain this organization that has been working to defend human rights in Guatemala and the U.S. for the past thirty-eight years. My goal is to raise $1,500, which will be doubled to $3,000 by a matching donor.
This year with the match campaign happening, I personally am pledging $250, which will be matching by generous donors. Will anyone match my donation, for a total of $750? My goal is to raise $1,500 by the end of next week and anything helps even if it's just a few $$!
Thank you all for your support!
