For my Bar Mitzvah Project, I am raising money towards the Clean Ocean Action's Beach Sweeps in their efforts to rid beaches of unsightly and harmful debris. This debris not only harms our beautiful sea creatures, but impact other animals in the food chain as well. It is unfair that humans are killing off species by such careless acts daily. The program has grown from 75 people at one site in 1985, to over 10,000 volunteers in 2019! Volunteers gather from Raritan to Delaware Bays and along the ocean to clean beaches and waterways, as well as underwater sites.
On October 24, 2020 I participated in the Beach Sweeps at Sandy Hook Beach. I was one of thousands of participants who collected and recorded garbage and debri along the beach and bay. The data will be used to help to help federal, state, and local programs to reduce litter. The money raised for this program will go towards presenting annual reports to lawmakers, ensure Beach Sweeps can be run each year and for educational clean ocean programs.
I love the beach so much and want to keep it clean and safe for everyone!
Thank you, Aidan
