Aidan and our family visited the Sheldrick Elephant orphanage in August when we travelled to Kenya and Tanzania for a safari. We were lucky enough to get an hour with the baby elephants all to ourselves. Though even as babies they are hundreds of pounds, they are the most gentle, social features. We pet their trunks and snuggled up for pictures. This left a lasting impression on all of us, but Aidan was particularly drawn to them. For that reason, in lieu of presents this year, Aidan asks that you consider donating to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust USA. These baby elephants require being bottle-fed every 3 hours, 24 hours a day for 3 year (yes, you read the numbers right) and the same personal keeper by their side run the clock for 3 years. They are then integrated back into the wild via a 2-3 year long process, but given how social elephants are this is always achieved. It is an amazing organization.
