After School Matters (ASM) is a Chicago-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission to provide Chicago public high school teens with opportunities to explore and develop their talents, while gaining critical skills for work, college and beyond. Since its founding in 1991, ASM has impacted more than 300,000 teens.
The majority of ASM youth live in low-income households and are exposed to crime and violence in Chicago’s most marginalized communities. Situated in this reality, ASM recognizes that its programs are life-changing and, in some cases, have proven life-saving. Thus, ASM takes seriously its comprehensive approach to positive youth development, specifically targeting the skills gap. ASM maintains rigorous, data-driven standards to equip youth with the tools that they need to succeed and build brighter futures for themselves and their communities. By investing in the development of Chicago’s young people, After School Matters understands that the organization and its supporters are investing not only in Chicago communities as they exist today, but also in the potential that they could realize in the future.
