"This September, my dad would have turned 55.
Sixteen years ago, he hung himself.
Let the rawness and the weight of those words sink in.
Yes, #suicide [facebook.com].
He left four children, fatherless and traumatized. It's a pain that cuts so deep it hurts the rest of your life.
I was 16 years old when I found my dad's cold, lifeless body and tried to help, but it was too late. That day I pounded on a paramedic's chest begging for the nightmare to end.
I'm sharing my story not because I'm seeking your pity, prayers or condolences; I want CHANGE.
I'm on a mission to help save lives. I want people suffering in silence to know help and support is available and things will get better.
For years, I've been part of the problem. I've failed to share my story due to pain and embarrassment. Yet, I've fought to share the stories of family members much stronger than I.
But it's time to confront the pain that shattered me as a teenager and haunts me as an adult.
On September 12, I'm embarking on a 17-mile trail run to help raise #suicide [facebook.com] awareness. I hope you can find it in your heart to contribute to the cause. Together we can save lives.
If you know anyone in danger, please contact the Suicide Hotline before it's too late: (303) 860-1200
