It is hard to believe that this is the third year that we have raised funds for CRAB – Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating. When the CRAB Annual Report came out, I was so happy to see how widespread the support was for CRAB and how many of the names on the donor list I knew – It is a good feeling to see a community pull together like that!
For the past two years the CRAB team has been focused on moving our activities into the Annapolis area. This year, there has been much movement on that front. We have secured support from the Annapolis, the County and the State. We have located a small marina in Back Creek that will support an adaptive boating center, and we are in the process of launching initiatives to make an Adaptive Boating Center in Annapolis a reality.
Having the center in Annapolis will allow us to expand our programming. The Center will support extending the summer camp activity for children from at risk neighborhoods. For many years we have talked about expanding our programs to include racing for those that are looking for an extra challenge. How cool would it be to see the CRAB boats out on the Wednesday night races! In the broadest sense, an adaptive boating center makes CRAB more of a destination for our guests and their caregivers. Annapolis and Eastport are fun places to visit. Many of our guests drive from the Washington DC area, and having a centrally located center with multiple activities is going to change the experience for all.
Emma, Lynne and I will be racing in the Regatta. Please consider supporting our effort through this Crowdrise page. I look forward to seeing folks at the party on the 17th of this month.
