Over the past twenty-five years, Acts Housing has helped more than 2,600 families become homeowners, reclaiming over 880 foreclosures and reinvesting $151 million into the City of Milwaukee.
The city of Milwaukee experiences nearly 14,000 eviction cases each year. Acts Housing supports families with low-to-moderate income, families that otherwise might be vulnerable to eviction, and helps them save $100 or more each month by becoming homeowners. Often, Acts is assisting families who purchase foreclosed homes with the purchase and the rehabilitation of these distressed properties. In Milwaukee County alone, there were more than 1200 foreclosed properties in 2019.
Acts' Strong Family Homeownership Program provides families with the homebuyer counseling, real estate brokerage, home rehab counseling, and lending support they need to achieve homeownership and step forward into more stable financial conditions. The long-term homeownership success rate of Acts' alumni families is a staggering 94%.
While this is an unprecedented time for all non-profits, Acts continues to serve despite the COVID-19 epidemic. The Acts team transitioned quickly and effectively to using phone, email, and video conferencing to serve our families. We are still welcoming new families into our homebuyer counseling program, supporting families in their home rehabs, and even assisting families to close on their home purchases. We invite you to help.
