On Thursday, August 8, United Way teamed up with the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center to host Action Day 2019. At this free, family-friendly event, a record number of attendees had the chance to make an immediate impact on the educational success of kids in our community. Plus, they had a ton of fun!
Each year, more than 100,000 students in our community go back to school without a backpack and the essential supplies needed to learn and succeed in the classroom.
Since 2016, United Way has been teaming up with all seven of Minnesota’s pro sports teams to bring volunteers together at Action Day to help local students start the school year ready to learn by filling backpacks with school supplies.
In 2019, we united more than 4,500 volunteers to pack 40,000 backpacks that will be distributed to students through nonprofits and school districts across the metro area. See the backpack recipients (PDF).
Missed the event? You can make a difference by buying a backpack for a child in need. Your $28 donation to the Action Day Backpack Fund buys one backpack. If you donate three backpacks ($84) or more, you’ll get a free Action Day T-shirt!
