Clearly, the COVID-19 pandemic has turned our greater Rochester community, like the rest of our country, upside down. It’s a time when the most vulnerable among us – like Cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers – need support and resources more than ever, and they are turning to the American Cancer Society for help in huge numbers. Cancer hasn’t stopped, and neither will we, but we need your help…perhaps more than ever!
Thousands of community-based fundraising events throughout the nation that make possible our free patient support programs – like free lodging, wigs, peer support, rides to treatment, and numerous web-based resources - have been suspended due to COVID-19, creating a devastating funding gap for the ACS and potentially compromising our ability to sustain those programs. We urgently need your support to continue our lifesaving mission, now in this time of great need, and going forward.
How will your investment help cancer patients AND support front-line health care workers?
Support – Our 24/7 helpline at 1-800-227-2345 is providing answers and support to patients and caregivers. In one 16-day period, March 8-24, we received 35,000 calls, 80% of which (or, 28,000) were related to COVID-19
Hope Lodge Response Fund – We are opening the doors to our Hope Lodge facilities around the country for health care workers on the front lines of the Coronavirus fight – at no cost – through the health care systems they are affiliated with.
Information – We are providing evidence-based information on cancer.org and have seen a 961% increase in front page clicks over the last month.
Advocacy – Our advocacy affiliate, ACS CAN, mobilized our staff and volunteers and was integral in the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act), which includes provisions to help nonprofits continue their critical services across the country.
We need YOUR help to continue our lifesaving work, both across the nation and right here at home. If you're able, please consider making a gift to fund our critical work during this unprecedented time.
Cancer hasn’t stopped. Neither have we. We're so grateful for any support you're able to lend during this challenging time, and we look forward to uniting again as an even stronger Rochester!
Your Rochester ACS Team
