Would you consider joining your neighbors in protecting a critical piece of property in SECT? Please help us purchase the Sheep Farm South property with a tax deductible donation of $20, $50, $100 or more.
At a time in history when outdoor open spaces have proven to be essential to the health of our communities, land acquisition is important.
Groton Open Space Association is fundraising to purchase Sheep Farm South, 104 acres which will add miles of trails to the 63 acre Sheep Farm at 245 Hazelnut Hill Rd in Groton CT.
This property connects to the existing 6-mile east-west greenbelt and creates a north-south component, extending wildlife habitats, scenic trails and stream corridors from I95 to the rocky shoreline.
Each year we have an outdoor event featuring live music, a local running event, and hikes on the Sheep Farm to feature the many unique features this property has to offer.
In use from the late 1600s until the early 1900s, the beautiful waterfall is at the original site of an old grist mill. Holding ponds are now wetlands, eels migrate up the brook, and children learn by brook dipping in the summer about all the healthy water plants, insects and animals that reside there.
