Thank you for your support.
In 2013 I had the good fortune to learn of Achilles from New York Road Runners association, and ran my first marathon. This year will be my 5th NYC, and last year I ran the Paris marathon guiding Jenny Hwang. In the past 2 years with Achilles Tri Team, I have been in 5 triathlons in NY and NJ. On a daily basis I am always in training and an Achilles Ambassador, as it has enriched my life in everything I do. The determination and positive attitude of my unstoppable team mates inspires me to raise money for our little kids in-school program and the "Freedom Team" of disabled veterans who want to walk, wheel or run in a mainstream running or triathlon event.
While Achilles programs focus on athletics, sports are simply a tool for accomplishing the main objective: to bring hope and the joys of achievement to people with disabilities.
For example, 236 visually -impaired athletes from Achilles ran the 2018 NYC marathon with guides.
When you watch it live on TV or cheer in NYC on November 3rd, the athletes using their arms to propel pushrim or hand-crank wheelchairs through the course are Achilles athletes. The coupled runners with a tether between them? Those are visually impaired Achilles athletes. Amputees, people with Multiple Sclerosis or Cerebral Palsy, those recovering from organ transplants, or living with diabetes -- all are Achilles athletes. . Achilles has more than 90 chapters in over 40 countries worldwide.
In my heart, I am motivated to "run away from type 1 diabetes complications" by keeping a strong body to carry me through a happy, long life ahead, celebrating moments with friends, family and 14 nieces and nephews. I run to set a good example for them of what can be. And also to compensate for the cardiovascular risks associated with type 1 diabetes.
