HI. I am running my first New York City Marathon in November. I will be running and raising funds for a very special charity, Achilles International, and I really need your help to reach my fundraising goal.
Achilles is a non-profit for adults and children with disabilities. Membership is always free and Achilles depends completely on donations to support their programs.
When I first moved to Boston four years ago, I discovered Achilles and the support and friendship of fellow runners who are also blind. Through Achilles I also found a community of people who volunteer as guides during races.
For me, running is an almost perfect analogy for life. It has taught me that I can do challenging things --- that hard work and perseverance is more important than talent. Running has taught me that even though I am racing against others, in the end the race is with myself. Being a blind/deaf runner has taught me that life is a team sport!
I am reaching out to you to ask if you will be part of my TEAM? I can only succeed in fulfilling my fundraising commitment by making it a team effort. Every dollar counts:
Achilles has helped me in so many ways and now I am working hard to help give back. I can only do this with your help and support. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
Finally, in case you didn’t know……Achilles also introduced me to Triathlons and this summer I competed in ParaTriathlon Nationals in Long Beach, CA and placed second in the women’s VI division.
Thank you for your continued love and support. I truly appreciate it. (See below for more informaiton on Achilles.)

We have 29 chapters within the U.S. and presence in over 40 countries from Japan and New Zealand to South Africa and Canada. Programs include the Achilles Freedom Team for ill, injured and wounded military personnel and veterans. Achilles Kids provides training, race opportunities, and an in-school program for over 11,000 children with disabilities in 23 states. Their goal is to complete a total of 26.2 miles during the school year. Our annual Hope & Possibility® race is a world-wide event recognized as the largest race to integrate disabled athletes with able-bodied runners. The event is held in several countries around the world including Mongolia and Germany and U.S. cities. TriAchilles expands our running program into biking and swimming.
Achilles International brings the largest field of athletes with disabilities (AWD) to the TCS New York City Marathon and is the recognized authority in shaping AWD divisions in marathons nationwide. While our programs focus on running, the truth is, running is simply a tool for accomplishing our main objective: to bring hope, inspiration, and the joys of achievement to all.
