Hi everyone! If you want to get us a physical gift for our registry we've included some fun items we want. But we don't really NEED anything...we've been dating for a little over 6 years and we've owned our house together for 5 years. So we have enough stuff! We would really appreciate you making a donation to our favorite charity in lieu of a traditional gift.
The ACE mentor program of Colorado is an after school program that helps students understand the Architecture-Construction-Engineering industry with hands on mentoring and learning sessions provided by local industry professionals. The students also engage in a different full-scope design project each year where they get hands-on learning about various professions including architecture, construction, engineering (civil, mechanical, structural, electrical), and landscape architecture. This program really helps high school students understand what these professions and career paths really look like on a day-to-day basis and figure out what specific field they are interested in.
I (Jess) wish there was a program like this when I was in high school...honestly, there are a lot of people who don't believe they have the capacity to pursue this type of career and give up before they really try. Equally as bad, there are a lot of people who spend 2-3 years of college tuition (And student debts) figuring out that this type of career field is not their passion. This program helps high schoolers hone in on the career paths that fit their passions and drives in a fun environment. I have mentored with ACE Colorado for the last 5 years and hope to continue mentoring until I'm senile (lol!)
I spend ~40-50 hours a year mentoring and preparing sessions for my students, and we also try to provide financial support to the program. In addition to the great hands-on experience and connections with industry professionals, the ACE Colorado program also provides several college scholarships each year. This is critical for many of our students and can help make dreams a reality.
If you are still reading, thank you for your time!! We know this is wordy, but we want to encourage you to support this amazing program instead of sending us a gift. Helping these students means more to us than any gift you could possibly give.
