In August 2020, the Wisconsin Climbers Association will be partnering with the Access Fund Conservation Team for our largest stewardship project yet - a 3 week erosion control and maintenance effort for some of our most beloved climbing areas at Devil's Lake State Park.
These projects will make climbing at the lake more sustainable for our climbing community.
What work will be done?
Over three weeks, the Access Fund team will be leading work to help with erosion control for access area. Right now, the intended area is the West Bluff trail and Cleo's Needle area.
To read more about the full scope of work proposed for this project, visit our project overview page here.
What is the funding for?
Funds will be allocated for two major expenses: the trail crew and volunteer support.
$7,500 will go directly towards hiring the Access Fund Trail Crew for three weeks.
$2,500 will go towards expenses to support our volunteers over the course of the three weeks. This includes items like food & refreshments for volunteers and replacing or procuring tools that can be used for this and future trail stewardship projects through the WCA. Additional volunteer support options are being explored as we begin to see what the park access looks like in the late summer.
Any funds raised over the project goal will go directly towards supporting future WCA stewardship events.
What if this project cannot be done this year due to pandemic related park closures, volunteer limitations, etc.?
The Access Fund Conservation Team has continued to work in isolation on projects where volunteer support is not possible due to various restrictions from the pandemic. Check out an example of what the team is able to accomplish in isolation here.
If this project is cancelled, the funds will be allocated towards bringing the team to Wisconsin in 2021 for this or a similar impact project.
Everyone who donates $35 or more will receive a limited edition Wisconsin Climbers Assocation t-shirt and sticker. You'll be contacted after the campaign closes to receive your perk.
