What an incredible year this has been! In September of 2017 we started Ability Tree Florida. We started it, because not only did we want something like this in our community for our daughter Emmalee, but also for the other 17,000+ children in Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus County.
Ability Tree a non-profit 501 c3, was founded in 2010 with locations in Arkansas and New Jersey; our mission is to reach out to families impacted by disability through recreation, education, support and training (R.E.S.T.). We aim to partner with individuals and organizations to raise awareness and build support networks to strengthen and grow able families. Ability Tree Florida launched in the Fall of 2017 with a monthly respite night to give parents of children with special needs a break and some rest. And hopes to open in 2018 an after school program for children with special needs so that their parents can receive a daily break as a caregiver.
Sensory friendly, accessible, and inclusive events for families of those impacted by disability and special needs will be the heart of what we do in Hernando County. Our goal is to partner with local businesses and organizations to offer such events for families with children with special needs and their friends. These events include movie screenings, bowling, art, and music classes. As well as after school programs, resource and support programs for parents/care-givers, and trainings for local businesses and churches to create accessibility for all children and families.
Would you consider making a tax-deductable, donation before the end of the year, and help celebrate the new year by doing a whole lot of good for families impacted by disability?
