For my Mitzvah Project, I have chosen to raise money for Experience Camps. Experience Camps provides free, one-week camps for kids who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or someone close to them. It's a place where kids can laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, and learn how to best deal with their grief. It's a place where they can feel "normal" because all of the other campers (and many of the volunteers) have been through something similar and understand what it's like to lose someone important to them. My overnight camp, Camp Somerset, is one of the sights that Experience Camps use for their campers. The campers get to do the same fun activities that I get to do with all of the amazing counselors I have had.
To support my Mitzvah Project, I'm asking my friends and family to make a donation so grieving kids can go to camp. I will be running a 5k at camp this summer and I am hoping that you will support me by donating to Experience Camps. Due to Covid-19, Experience Camps can not run this summer, so I am looking ahead and want to raise a lot of money so many kids can go next year.
Please consider making a donation in honor of my Bat Mitzvah. I know that the kids I am fundraising for will appreciate your donation.
