Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance, and for medically complex children, that can be a death sentence. Children like Dwayne are not so fortunate.
Dwayne is 3 years old and living in poverty in the Philippines. He was born with Hirschsprung's disease which is when there is missing nerve cells in the muscles of the colon. More than a year ago Dwayne needed surgery to create a colostomy because his bowel was not functioning. A colostomy is a surgical procedure that brings one end of the large intestine out through the abdominal wall. Dwayne now needs 2 further surgeries. The first is to remove the part of his bowel that is not functioning and pull the healthy bowel down to his anus. The bowel then needs some time to heal before the final surgery to close the colostomy. Dwayne needs these surgeries so he can live a happy and healthy life! And just be a little boy
Maya’s Hope helps disadvantaged children living in poverty and helps provide hope by instilling value and purpose in each child.
