WILL YOU SUPPORT THE COVID-19 RELIEF FUND FOR MERIT FAMILIES?
Your donation supports:
· Additional tuition relief for families impacted by COVID-19, with 70% of Merit students receiving financial aid
· Various need-based student supports, including tuition subsidy, low-cost instrument rental, transportation, music, and music supplies, which account for 50% of Merit's operating budget
· 3,000 students at our West loop location and in area schools and community centers
The Merit Associate Board is committed to furthering the Merit School of Music’s mission to remove barriers to high-quality music education. We are a group of Chicago-area young professionals who volunteer our time, expertise, and resources to support Merit and its students. In response to COVID-19, our goal is to ensure that Merit students have the resources they need to keep the music going throughout the pandemic and beyond.
Now more than ever, Merit students are leaning into music for constancy, refuge, and inspiration. Merit provides over $750,000 in need-based financial aid to students each year, and this year we're raising funds to provide additional financial aid for families impacted by the pandemic.
Donate today to help the Associate Board reach our goal of raising $10,000 by December 31 to support the COVID-19 Relief Fund. Your gift will keep the music going for students when they need it most—each gift, no matter the size, makes a difference!
MERIT'S COVID-19 PIVOT TO VIRTUAL LEARNING
Merit is incredibly proud of how we successfully pivoted to virtual learning at the onset of the pandemic. While COVID-19 and its unpredictable impacts marked an unprecedented challenge to Merit as an organization whose programs are rooted in close personal contact, the commitment and creativity displayed at every level of the organization—from trustees, to faculty, to administrative and facility staff, as well as the children and families—who have rallied to maintain continuity in their studies has simply been tremendous.
Within two weeks of the closure of Merit’s facility this spring, faculty were teaching online—first private lessons, then group classes and non-performance Conservatory classes soon after. With no way to forecast how effective virtual classes would be, we were deeply gratified at the strong response and are continually impressed by the innovations and new initiatives that continue to be born of these unprecedented times.
