The AAVia Foundation for the Health of Bolivian Children teams with Bolivian-based efforts to improve the health of Bolivian children. It is based in Fairport and was established by local family physician Dr. Timothy Malia and his family who has roots there.
Bolivia is one of the poorest nations in the western hemisphere. Lack of funds means efforts for improving health too often simply can't have a full effect. Children suffer from this loss of potential benefit.
The AAVia Foundation empowers Bolivian groups in their work. A major current partner is a nursing school in a rural area that allows young adults from their region to have careers that serve the community.
The nursing school is integral for community outreach efforts to towns in the region. That includes the AAVia-supported "Clean Hands/Healthy Schools" campaign that has reached hundreds of students in dozens of schools in the rural Altiplano -- such efforts prevent sickness allowing for improved health & education.
