Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and out of an abundance of caution for our members and the public, we had to cancel our 2020 and 2021 AAUW Used Book Sales. We need your help now as we try to find alternative ways to raise money for AAUW National & local scholarships. In 2020 this fundraiser raised enough money that the branch could fund scholarships for women returning to college at Marymount and Trinity universities and also support women’s education through AAUW Funds, a 501(c)(3) entity.
While there is simply nothing like the thrill of finding the perfect book at our sale, we have attempted to add a little something to keep the spirit of excitement alive for our online fundraiser.
There is an opportunity to own memorabilia signed by Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer and at the same time support women’s and girls’ education. The substitute fundraiser will feature the Scherzer memorabilia opportunity along with a request for contributions to support education and local scholarships for women.
Donors will get on base with a contribution of $20 or more and also have the opportunity to hit a home run and own either a signed Max Scherzer baseball (1), bobblehead (3), or baseball card (3). Seven donors will have the opportunity thanks to the generosity of the Scherzer family. For each $20 contribution, the person’s name will be listed. Multiples of $20 will enhance the opportunity. Owners will be contacted through the email provided.
Contributions can be made until August 15, 2021 through GoFundMe. Donations may also be sent with full name, address, and phone number to McLean Branch AAUW at P.O. Box 1002, McLean, VA 22101.
We may have lost the Book Sale, but we won’t stop working on behalf of women and education. We hope we can count on you for a donation and to help us spread the word about our online fundraiser. Please share this GoFundMe with your family and friends!
