A Sign of Hope:
We are a group of nine passionate local teens serving on WCFR's Teen Board, hoping to add to the two previous teen boards’ efforts by leaving a lasting legacy in our community. We have a short time to raise $5,000 for a permanent lighted sign for Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen.
Located at 1408 N. Washington St., WCFR can look like any other business. With the busy north and south traffic on Washington St. and no traffic light at Sinto Avenue, the building might be overlooked. Our goal is to have every car, bus, and person traveling these roads know what our facility means to our community. Our restaurant is here to serve women, children, and families free, nutritious (and delicious!) meals prepared and served with love. Our new sign will be more than just a building marker. It will serve as a sign of hope for thousands of local women and children.
Join us in supporting our community by making this sign a reality. Your heart will be full, knowing you've helped light the way to a place where women and children will fill their bellies with nutritious food.
Hunger is a Reality for Women and Children in Spokane:
The pandemic has had a devastating effect on our country, our community, and especially women and children. Job layoffs and business closures have driven women to food lines, some for the first time in their lives, and nearly 3 in 10 children are food insecure. For more than three decades, Women & Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen (WCFR) has served nutritious meals to thousands of women, teens, children and seniors. Since the pandemic began, the restaurant pivoted its in-house dining services to curbside meal and grocery pick up. By the end of 2020, WCFR provided more than one million meals to families in need.
STCU Doubles Your Dollars:
We're here for good, just like our community partner, STCU. STCU will match every dollar donated up to $5,000. Help us stretch those dollars, Spokane. We have a short time to make it happen!
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, WCFR is a vital safety net that fills nutritional gaps for women and children in need while fostering dignity and respect both within our restaurant and in the community. Learn more about us online www.wcfrspokane.org.
All funds that exceed the cost of the sign and installation will directly support WCFR meal programs.
Preliminary estimate for the sign, permit, installation and electrical work for lighting the sign, is $13,000 + tax. The sign will be a 10’ wide cutout of the WCFR logo with a vertical brushed silver finish, space mounted (projecting off the building 1-2”) and weather sealed.
