“I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason bringing something we must learn and we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them and we help them in return. Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true but I know I’m who I am today because I knew you... I have been changed for good. So much of me is made of what I learned from you. You’ll be with me like a handprint on my heart and now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine by being my friend... Because I knew you I have been changed for good.”
Those lyrics from “ Wicked” tell the story of my friendship with Sister Mary Sheridan. Sister Mary was my homeroom teacher at Sacred Heart Academy. She taught me so much more than being on time. One Saturday detention removing gum from the bottom of the cafeteria tables did that! Sister Mary taught me prayers move mountains and giving creates happiness. Sister Mary is kind, patient, nonjudgmental, intelligent, faithful, and a fantastic listener.
I have decided to run the half marathon on Sunday 5/5/19 in honor of my friend Sister Mary, who continues to change me “for good”.
Please consider donating to a run to remember because so many of our lives have been affected by Alzheimer’s. Thank you and may God bless you...
