Hello, my name is Wansheba Lawal, I am Founder and Executive Director of The Village of Hope Inc. I am writing to you today to ask for your support. Growing up in the inner city of Milwaukee, I personally know and recognize the impact poverty and trauma can have on youth. There were many obstacles, I had to overcome. I was blessed to have positive women in my life who invested their time and mentored me. Because of their mentorship and being involved in organizations like Career Youth Development and Northcott Neighborhood House I was able to gain essential skills that have assisted me in graduating from high school and college, obtaining my master’s degree and having a career as a teacher.
In 2009, God gave me a vision to create an organization for girls where mentorship was the foundation. Thus, the Village of Hope was birthed! The Village of Hope Inc. is non-profit organization located in Racine, WI. Our Ladies on the Move summer and after-school program is a prevention education program for girls in grades 4th-12th. One of our main goals is to make sure we provide a safe space for girls to learn and grow.
Our mission is to help girls achieve academic success, create positive self-images and build beneficial relationships amongst their peers. Our program includes interactive activities and sessions which are designed to: inspire and promote self-love, self-esteem; develop life-skills, and provide the skills and knowledge needed to help girls become change agents in their communities.
Since 2009, The village of Hope Inc. has made a positive impact on girls in both Milwaukee and Racine, WI. We have served over 150 girls through our after-school and summer programs; youth conferences and black college tours . Some of our successes include: we have a 100% high school graduation rate, 100% on-time yearly grade-progression. We currently, have 14 college graduates and three of which who are working on advanced degrees. We want to continue the great work that we do.
We are currently in need of a permeant home to house The Village of Hope. We have found a location we would like to call home. But, are in need financial support to acquire the building. Our goal is to raise the $200,000 to purchase the building with an additional $30,000 for renovations; totaling $230,000. No donation is too big or too small. All donations are tax deductible. We would like to thank you in advance for your consideration in helping us to continue; giving girls hope, helping them to become prodcutve, influential women of the future!
