Hi! Thanks for checking out my fundraiser! As a student at Lansing Christian School in Lansing, MI, I have a unique opportunity to serve a community in need. It’s called Service Week. The purpose of Service Week is to help us see and understand some of the needs in our own communities, to help us build the necessary skills and etiquette for meeting community needs in a variety of settings, and to develop a heart of service for our neighbors here and around the world.
I chose to serve the community of parents who have children with special needs because of my personal experience. My brother was born at 24 weeks. Because he was born prematurely, his brain was not fully developed like it should have been. Sometimes he acts up in public, at grocery stores or school, where he becomes almost another person. When he acts up, he does and says rude and hurtful things. His behavior can be frustrating and embarrassing for the whole family. I grew up having to depend on my friends and other family members to understand his actions. Some people never understand. They believe he is weird, and that he can control what he does. I have received dirty looks from people when he acts up. It hurts me because I know this is not my little brother doing these terrible things.
For my fundraiser, I am choosing to support A Mother’s Rest (https://www.amothersrest.org/). The mission of A Mother’s Rest is to improve the emotional and physical health of caregivers through proactive, affordable, restorative, respite opportunities. When you donate to my fundraiser, your donation will support The Yes! Fund. This fund makes it possible to offer grants to caregivers who want to attend, but still need financial help. This fundraiser is 48 HOURS ONLY and my goal is to raise $250. Thank you for your support!
