Children from poor families in middle and South Georgia (Ten Counties: Lamar, Upson, Spaulding, Pike, Troup, Marion, Talbot, Harris, Taylor, Meriwether, and Chattahoochee) have limited access to dental care. With your help, we (The Zoe Pediatric Foundation) would like to close this gap by outfitting a “Mobile Pediatric Dental Office” to include a dentist and dental hygienist and make it available to this population. Very few Pediatric Dentists practice in these counties.
Tooth decay has been a preventable disease for over fifty years when the only option was extractions and appliances (false teeth). The public health formula that lead to the dramatic improvement in dental health are threefold. (1). Fluoridate drinking water (preventing a third of cavities); (2) twice a year preventive check-up; and more importantly, (3) brushing and flossing daily. As a result, dentists migrated from just pulling teeth and fitting false teeth to preventive dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and prosthodontics.
While dental care has seen a dramatic improvement, the dental needs of the community continues to lag. Rural areas are dependent upon well-water and bottled water for drinking; affordable dental care is still out of reach for most of the population; and lack of education regarding proper dental hygiene continues to impact putting an end to tooth decay.
Pediatric dentists provide specialized care for children through adolescence. They are trained to recognize and treat dental problems that are specific to children.
Tooth decay is a preventable childhood disease that inflicts pain from infections that further handicaps the unfortunate victim’s nutrition, speech and missing school leading to under-achievement. Poor children have twice the rate of untreated tooth decay than their better off schoolmates.

A well-equipped Dental Van will provide us the portability to go to the need so we can enhance our ability to serve a population that is clearly in need. There are just too many children with no access to dental services. We will offer our services primarily through schools. After the usual formalities and approvals, we will announce our arrival in advance and make appointments (thru the school nurse) for students. We will then park our Van in the parking lot of each school (on a rotating basis in the ten counties) and offer a free dental health education and checkup to ALL students. Those who have dental carries will either be treated by our in-house pediatric dentist and dental hygienists or referred to another dentist for follow-up.
Our mission is vital. Please partner with us to make this a reality. Even $100 will help.
