Cabarete, Dominican Republic, is a vibrant eco-tourism town with a new-age spirit, adventure sports and a rich social life.
But for the native kids born and raised here, a decent future can seem impossible.
Most will never work at the hotels, manage a restaurant, start their own business or travel beyond the confines of their little world to study and fulfill their dreams.
That's because they lack things most of us take for granted: basic language skills, new experiences, positive role-models and a vision for a bright future.
Why should only tourists enjoy life in Cabarete, while local kids sit on the sidelines and slip towards teen-pregnancy, mistreatment of girls and women, crime and drug abuse?
Local girls already had a great mentoring program, but there was nothing for the boys. Without educated boys, it's very difficult to have responsible and respectful husbands and fathers.
In 2015, we decided to change this. We started Inspire By Action, Inc. aka InspireDR, an after-school learning program with the mission to educate, mentor and inspire under-priviledged boys to become productive and responsible members of the community...
...to teach boys skills and values to eventually secure good paying jobs as tradesmen, professionals and busness owners, and to be positive husbands and fathers.
To borrow part of an old saying: our mission is to teach the boys how to fish.
We need your help. We're diligently working to achieve sustainability and we’re getting closer; however, since our inception in 2015, Adam Gutman, Co-founder and President, has provided his personal resources to fund the program when unable to reach our financial needs and Adam doesn't take a salary from our organization.
62 boys are enrolled and 71 more are on the wait-list ready to join. Your donations allow us to add more boys, hire more instructors, and support our 2018 budget - giving kids an opportunity for a brighter future they otherwise would not have.
