s a transplant recipient, I made a promise to serve others in need with my second chance at life. I decided to return back to school and seek a master of social work. I have the pleasure of serving my first internship with this organization. I am asking if anyone is able to contribute a couple of dollars to this cause it would be greatly appreciated. The money rasied provides food and assistance with the homeless families and youth.
Family Promise of Berks County is in the heart of downtown Reading, Pennsylvania. Our organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and affiliate of Family Promise National. We partner with local communities and networks of volunteers to provide services to homeless families, youth and individuals facing a housing crisis. Our doors opened in July of 2006 and we have been graciously serving communities in need ever since. We are one of over 200 Affiliates of the national Family Promise organization. Current programs focus on rapid rehousing, homelessness prevention, mediation, advocacy and emergency assistance. Our unique model recognizes that maintaining family units increases successful outcomes. The latter allows for couples and single parent households to remain with their children while being sheltered versus being separated by gender. An average week at Family Promise of Berks serves 3 families and 5 youth while providing families with 168 meals and 84 bed nights. The volunteers we work with typically spend 274 hours a week providing these services while case managers work with families to support them in gaining independence. Our door is always open! Get to know us, follow our work and stop by to see how you can lend a helping hand.
