As a breast cancer survivor, I was thrilled to run in my first Donna Breast Cancer Half Marathon in 2017. I had intended to run again in 2018 but the flu got the best of me and I wasn't able to race. However, to-date I have raised $11,236 for breast cancer research and support. In 2019 I will be racing in order to celebrate my 9 year anniversary of being a survivor!
My goal amount of $3764 may seem odd but I would like to raise enough funds this year to hit $15,000 total in breast cancer fundraising.
I am thrilled to once again combine my love of running with my passion for breast cancer research. This race is the only full and half marathon distance race in the US that donates all of the proceeds to breast cancer support and research. In fact, 70% of the proceeds are donated to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville which is one of the leading breast cancer research organizations in the US. The remaining proceeds are used by the Donna Foundation to support local Floridians with their support of breast cancer. No worries if you do not want to donate as I realize that everyone has their own charities of choice. I would only ask that if you are reading this to please be sure to perform self-exams as early detection saves lives!
