I will be biking the Sacramento Century Challenge on October 6th! This 100 mile tour starts and ends at the state capitol, and rolls through the growing region of the Sacramento River Delta. It's going to be a beautiful ride! The Sacramento Rotary Club sponsors the Century Challenge, and the proceeds of this fundraising ride go to The Sacramento Crisis Nursery, an organization near and dear to my heart. Please join me in raising money for The Crisis Nursery. You can read more about how The Crisis Nursery supports the community here:
Over the next month I'll be posting pictures of my training rides along with stories of how bicycling and social work have shaped and influenced my life. Here's the first installment:
I. I remember my first bike. It was a white bmx style bike with a black box over the right handle. When I turned the handle that was connected to the box, it made a motorcycle sound. It was so cool - I loved that bike! I would get it rolling down a slight hill, then stand up on the middle bar. I called it "surfing." I was probably about 10 years old at the time. Maybe bicycle surfing wasn't a thing in the early 80s, but it looks like it is now. Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBZIK1U7nbc.
