Help me reach my fundraising goal for Special Olympics Chicago!
This year, I'm running the Chicago Marathon in support of Special Olympics Chicago, an organization near and dear to my heart ever since I can remember. Special Olympics Chicago serves more than 7,500 athletes, offering year-round sports training and competition in 22 sports, and my sister Kate is one of them.
My older sister, Kate, has been involved with SOC for many years and recently re-engaged with them through a friend. She has found great community and gotten to know so many interesting people because of the activities they have to offer. Kate was diagnosed with epilepsy at 3 years old which brought along some developmental difficulties throughout her life. Thanks to an organization like Special Olympics, she has been able to take advantage of a community that she may not otherwise have had.
When I asked Kate what her favorite part about the organization is, she was quick to say "there are so many different activities and I've been able to make connections with others who go through similar struggles and might have similar challenges like me". It brings me so much joy to know that there is a place for anybody to be able to get involved, no matter what that may mean. I'm hoping to give back to Special Olympics Chicago this year, for all of the hope and encouragement they have given my sister and my family.
No donation is too small!! Because of Special Olympics, the world has witnessed the courage, character, dedication, dignity and worth of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (across a wide spectrum) and I am proud to run in support of them. Look out for my bib and be sure to cheer on myself, as well as Special Olympics Chicago in the 2019 Chicago Marathon. If you would prefer to make a donation via check, you can send payment directly to Special Olympics Chicago and they will credit this page. Please make sure to include my full name somewhere in the memo section or on a note. Either way, I hope to see you there!
