UPDATE: To make this more challenging I'm going to be running the 0.3 mile paved road (170 feet of climbining) up and down the summit instead of the 1-mile loop. This means many more repeats and much more climbing! Thanks to everyone who has donated so far!
As an ultra endurance athlete who has been training hard the last few months for races that are now cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I want to use my current fitness and running ability to help my local community. At an undisclosed date and time, to prevent spectators or friends from showing up and to stay aligned with social distancing practices, I will be running up and down Horn Pond Mountain (or Mt Towanda as the locals know it) for 8 hours using the steep rocky trail side up, paved side down. One loop is roughly 1 mile in length with about 200 feet of climbing. All donations raised will be given to SCI Woburn to be used for their efforts during the pandemic. (refer to www.sciwoburn.org/covid19). This is a hard time for everyone right now. Many people are losing their jobs or businesses, or are unable to work due to health concerns. Please do not donate if you can not afford to but with that said, no donation is too small. Feel free to comment with your guess as to how many trips up and down Towanda I can do in 8 hours and the donator with the closest guess will win a prize! For reference, today I did 14 of these Towanda loops in about 2 hours and 20 minutes, and in the past I have done 16 of them in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Most likely will not be able to keep that same pace for 8 hours!
Thank you! Stay healthy, local and safe!
