Sign up for an Ironman70.3!
So I did just that and signed up for the Traverse City Ironman70.3. I then hired a coach, fit my bike to become a part of me for the next 4 months, learned how to swim outside of the doggy paddle, and have my inspiration. The inspiration is Trail's Edge Camp.
Trails Edge Camp:
Trail's Edge Camp is held every summer in Mayville, Michigan, for ventilator dependent children. Since 1990, Trails Edge has been made possible by dedicated volunteers and generous donors who make it free of cost for campers and their families.
During the first full week of every June, campers get to leave their disabilities behind and experience camping like other kids their age at the Fowler Center’s 200 acre barrier-free camp. The facility is beside an inland lake which makes boating, fishing, and swimming possible for our campers. Campers also enjoy activities that would otherwise be impossible for them to experience such as horse-back riding, and climbing/exploring in the Craig Van Laanen Tree House, which was built with the combined efforts of Trail’s Edge volunteers, and the University of Michigan School of Engineering.
The Inspiration:
Trail's Edge camp has been a part of my life for the last 8 years and every one of those years has humbled me in a different way.
I understand the huge challenge of taking this triathalon on as my first but then i remind myself... The kids I've met and built friendships with achieve the impossible everyday. I want to show them how much their positive attitudes and huge hearts not only have on themselves but the impact it has on others. My inspiration is the kids, the smiles, the never give up personalities! They will get me through these next 4 months. As a tribute to these amazing kids and those who make Trail's Edge Camp a success, I have a fundraising goal of $1,000 by August 25, 2019, when I take on the Traverse City IM70.3.
