The Rattlesnake Elementary 5th grade is requesting funds for our annual spring field trip to Butte. In past years, this field trip was funded through a grant from the EPA- and unfortunately, that grant is not available in 2020. This field trip concludes a school-yearlong investigation of the health of Missoula's waterways and riparian ecosystems. While in Butte, students will visit the Berkeley Pit, learn about open pit versus underground mining, water treatment, the future direction of the Superfund site and ongoing river restoration efforts. Students will also visit Granite Memorial Overlook and Anslemo Mine Yard to dive deeper into the history of mining in Montana. Students balance varying and complex perspectives about the ecological impacts of mining with the needs of communities today, innovations in mining technology and environmental solutions. This field trip will provide real world experiences that will have a lasting impact as students connect their backyard to the larger watershed ecosystem in which they live.
All funds donated via this page's Donate Button will go towards the 5th Grade Butte Field Trip. If we exceed our fundraising goals, all additional funds will be placed in the Rattlesnake PTA General Fund and used for future field trips!
