Thank you for visiting our fundraising page! On December 23rd, Isabella will be 9 months old and participating in her first 5K race! We’ll be running together as a family to raise money for families at Elizabeth House (Family Hope), a non-profit that “exists to provide shelter, hope, and support to homeless, pregnant women and their children by addressing their physical, emotional, spiritual and economic needs in a nurturing atmosphere” (Mission Statement).
We’ve had the opportunity to be involved at Elizabeth House for the past year and a half, and we truly believe in what they do. Having had a baby ourselves earlier this year, we know the importance of a solid support system in such a wildly transitional time. We can’t imagine going through it while homeless. And of the homeless mothers supported, 70% are survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence as well.
We have witnessed how incredibly experienced, loving, and fiercely dedicated the staff at Elizabeth House is to helping moms find healing and hope. In addition to shelter and consistent compassion, services include mental health counseling, pre- and post-natal care, doulas, parenting classes, mentoring, legal aid, healing through the arts, and more. It’s the only San Gabriel Valley shelter to accept expectant mothers with kids, and one of the few in the whole county to provide in-house support services to pregnant women.
We invite you to join us in supporting this incredible organization! Your contribution will go directly to Elizabeth House, towards the new Alumni Center (see photo with families, above). It's a beautiful space that allows for a large increase in services, as well as housing. We have met many moms who are part of the alumni program and are thriving - citing Elizabeth House as that turning point. Here is a poem written by an alumna:
Love had eluded me and left us alone.
What I needed was a shelter,
You gave us a home.
Where love multiplied,
Was born and grew.
undeserved, and true.
To the source of love
is who you carried us to.
A source of love that will
continue to carry us through.
Please know that any and every amount you contribute to this cause is so incredibly appreciated and deeply impactful for women just like Jessica.

UPDATE: Some of you have asked how the 5K went last weekend. Interestingly enough, the race location and time were changed at the last minute (like, 2 hours before the race!) and we were unable to make it. But, along with our good friend Annie, who was going to run the race as well, we ran a 5K route ourselves in honor of Elizabeth House. Isabella only cried for about 5 minutes of the whole thing, so we considered it a success!
