UPDATE 1 (10/30): We hit our original goal of $25,000 on October 29th before our virtual race weekend even began thanks to the generosity of all our beloved supporters. We have increased the goal to $27,500. Mask up to run together!
UPDATE 2 (10/31): We just went over our new goal of $27,500! We've adjusted our goal to $30,000 for our final push, so please continue encouraging your friends and family to sign up at any time during this weekend. Thank you, mask up, and let's go!
For several years now, our beloved supporters and volunteers have run New York Road Runners' Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K in support of our children. While we can't be together for our run this year, we are asking you to join us for our virtual “500 Miles for 5,000 Smiles” race, which will take place from Friday, October 30th to Sunday, November 1st.
What is a virtual race? You can run, walk, bike, swim, or crawl as fast or slowly as you want in a location of your choosing. Since our race overlaps with Halloween, you can decorate your mask and add to the festivity!
How does it work? Like in traditional races, you can either start your own team, join an existing team, or run as part of Team ABC. Once you have joined by using the button above, you are ready to start training and fundraising. Each participant will have to cover a $25 event registration fee/fundraising minimum. This allows us to put on this event and helps support our life-changing programming.
While we encourage you to cover a distance of 5 kilometers, there is no minimum or maximum race distance. The most important thing is to take part. We only ask that you upload your mileage to our Challenge Hound page here, which we will be using to track our collective progress towards our 500-mile target. Everyone who signs up will receive more detailed information about how to log your progress as we get closer to our “500 Miles for 5,000 Smiles" weekend.
Why should I run? In New York, we are all the person upstairs, the person across the hall, the family next door. By participating in ABC’s “500 Miles for 5,000 Smiles,” you will be running for your vulnerable neighbors' continued access to the critical services they need. Please help us prove that we are stronger together, even when we're apart.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Development Associate Erica Choi at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bring a smile by running a mile.
