Dirt floors are breeding ground for germs, bacteria and parasites that make many children and their families sick. While research has shown that a hard floor reduces parasitic infections by 78%, most rural African families can’t afford a concrete floor (which costs upwards of $300 for an average 25 square meter home).
EarthEnable builds floors that are made with natural materials such as clay, sand and gravel and are a third of the price of concrete. However, there are many families that still can’t afford a floor and so, to celebrate our success this year, we have decided to build 500 free floors for 500 families! We are working with local government officials to identify families in rural areas who need our floors most and live in areas where we don’t have a presence yet to serve as demonstration floors.
With a $100 donation (the average cost of a floor), you can help us reach our goal of flooring 500 homes this holiday season.
